When I first saw the trailer, I couldn’t help but think that this would be another Nicholas Sparks novel turned hit movie for 2012’s love month, February. I looked it up online and was surprised to see that this was inspired by a true story of a couple. So I decided to watch it and besides, my friends were fussing about it.
*spoiler alert!*
The movie started with a romantic, almost perfect love story of Paige and Leo (Rachel McAdams & Channing Tatum). Everything turned upside down when they had a car accident which resulted to Paige having memory loss dues to the impact. Meaning, she doesn’t remember that she’s head over heels for Leo and that she’d do anything for him. It as difficult, Paige remembered to be engaged to someone else, his ex-boyfriend I suppose. In the end Paige never got her memory back and I’d just want to you to see how things went yourself.
The acting of Channing Tatum is surprisingly good, considering that this is a drama and I expected him for action or comedy. I think his experience with different genres of movie helped a lot and it paid off in this movie. As for Rachel McAdams, however, I can’t see the innocent, a bit of good girl type whom i think is her role. She’s an artist in the movie and all I see is that same annoying bitch Regina George from Mean Girls, since she played that role well. I’ve seen her in Sherlock Holmes and I can’t really appreciate her acting but in this movie, I’d say it’s good enough but I still think they could’ve gotten a better actress.
Overall, the idea of the movie is good. Tatum’s acting is marvelous, I say he was the one who led the emotions in almost the entire duration of the film. I have a friend who’s really a fan of romantic-drama films like this and she likes The Vow so I guess I owe the judgment to her. She told me she’d give it 8/10 and I gave it 6/10 so average of both is 7/10. Worth watching, probably especially for the ones who are addicted to romantic-drama films. A movie like this, it makes people expect more from their love life. And I guess there’s nothing really wrong from having expectations. It’s just that sometimes, expectations are the reasons why disappointments arise. 🙂
